Professor Kim is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Catholic University in South Korea, where he serves as a director of the Cell Therapy Centre. He also serves as Vice-Dean, and has been instrumental in the development and progression of educational systems within the University.
His main interest is articular cartilage and bone regeneration for cartilage defects, osteonecrosis, fracture and non-union. He first treated fracture patients successfully using autologous cultured osteoblasts in 2001 – a world first case.
Professor Kim has experience in more than 1,000 cases of cartilage regeneration using stem cells, collagen and hyaluronic acid.
For bone regeneration, he performed clinical trials as a principal investigator using autologous cultured osteoblasts for delayed union of fracture patient’s successfully in 2009. This was also a world first clinical trial.
